What spreading low plant can I plant in my front garden

I'm not an experienced gardener. I've a 2 metre square patch of garden that's bare and want to plant something that will flower and spread fairly quickly, preferably come back next year. The soil doesn't seem great. Any recommendations? Preferably to order online.

Thanks.

I probably should! I've dug it over ready this afternoon, part of the problem is a grate in the middle, the soil is very shallow around it. Could I use compost instead?

I'd suggest this, we use it

Just spread it over the earth, it holds in moisture, suppresses weeds and improves the soil. Really impressed by it.

Thanks, I'll have a look for it Smile

Google sedums, we have a number of ground cover varieties which are lovely. Really nice leaf colours, perennials and many of them flower. I’ve managed to propagate loads really easily from cuttings and they cope with the heat really well not needing much water.
