Does wisteria need support & can I grow it from a big pot?

I'm intending to grow a white wisteria up the front of the house we are buying to soften a fairly solid non attractive house.

There is tarmac right up to the bricks of the house so assume I'd need to use a couple of huge pots to grow it in and keep watered - has anyone ever tried this? Any good?

Also wondering if I need to install strong wire supports for it to wend its way up.

Thanks

I'm not sure about growing it in pots but you will definitely need the supports.

Mine is in a pot and doing fine, they like their roots constricted.

We just have random nails which keep it in place.

Sorry to jump in on OP's thread, but can I ask what size pot you have please?

Following as we have inherited a wisteria with our new home. First year it was great, there was a huge long train of it over a big window, but then seemed to ‘die’. There were buds that never actually grew. but new growth from the bottom this year that we’re keen to train that back up and cut down the ‘dead stuff’. So will follow this thread with a keen eye!

It's about 2.5 feet, probably needs to be a bit bigger tbh but I was aware of it not growing too big. Do NOT feed it by the way, water only.

Fab, thank you!

What happens if you feed it @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor? All leaf and no blooms?

Great to hear it can be grown in pots. We had to take a huge one down in current house when we moved in. Nearly broke me It was all over the detached garage roof which needed replacing. Chopped it down and it's still regrowing now so must have huge root system.
