Best noise-cancelling broadleaf evergreen?

Can you recommend the best noise-cancelling broadleaf evergreen? I need a sound barrier around my garden. Ideally one that will grow quickly as we will only live here for around four more years.
Must be child-friendly, so holly is out.
Pics would be massively appreciated!
I love abroad but longitudinally equivalent to north Wales.
Thank you x

laurel has big leaves, grows pretty fast & is evergreen

or a bay tree. But it might take a while to get going.

the quickest is leylandii but that doesn't have big leaves.

Please don't inflict leylandii on your neighbours.

Does anyone have any experience with photinia?

I was also going to suggest laurel, until I saw that it needs to be child-friendly. Laurel produces luscious purple-black berries in summer, which look a bit like cherries, and could be appealing to children. However, the berries (and all parts of the plant) contain cyanide, so if your children or their friends are of an age where they are likely to nibble, I'd steer clear of laurel.

There are some types of holly that have few or no spines, such as the ilex x altaclerensis types eg Lawsoniana.

Privet would be quite good - it's semi-evergreen, so keeps its leaves unless it gets really cold, and makes a dense hedge.

Or how about Oleaster? They grow fast, and smell gorgeous in the autumn.
