Can't find this in my books! Self seeded, probably from next door, and need to move it as tucked under a hedge!

Rose campion, or lychnis - though I seem to remember it had a new name last time I was in a garden centre. It’ll selfseed very happily, and is easy to identify by its silvery leaves so you can remove any that pop up where they’re not wanted. Enjoy it!

Here

Excellent, thank you. Have just the spot to move it to!

According to wiki it's now Silene coronaria.

Confusingly, the RHS website gives its synonyms as Agrostemma tomentosum

Oh well - it's a lovely plant anyway!

Agrostemna, Lychnis, Silene are all in the same (pink, carnation) family. Silene and Lychnis are very close, and are the campions and catch flies. Agrostemma includes corncockle, and seeing the two together in my garden the other day, I was struck by how similar the flowers are. So not at all surprised that rose campion used to be in Agrostemma, and even less surprised that it’s moved from Lychnis to Silene

It's surprising it wasnt always a Silene, given that's what the very obviously similar red campion is in... unless that's moved too.
And the wiki page on the latter has a photo of a seed head being eaten by a ..... lychnis moth caterpillar. Grin

One of my favourite plants, especially in that colour

ErrolTheDragon · 20/07/2021 16:46

I love them, but mine never last more than a year or two, tops, and don't seem to manage to self seed. I've only just realised why I've got a couple of gaps...Perhaps I should try growing some in pots from seed. (Similar with verbena bonariensis )

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/07/2021 19:18

Errol they’re very easy from seed, and it’s readily available

ErrolTheDragon · 20/07/2021 22:10

I've started a seed list today.Grin
