Can anyone shed some light on to why my new little Apple tree looks like it's dying? The upper leaves are wilting, turning brown and curling up.

Ooh I hope someone can help as mine looks like that this year. It was a new one last year and looked fine but this year it's not so good

Over or under watering? If you don't have enough rain you are supposed to water well once a week while they establish.

Or do you have a dog? Mine killed a small apple tree as he decided he liked peeing on it (I wasn't planning on eating apples the first few years). I bought another and fenced it in and it's doing great because the dog can't get at it....

Hmm. Could be a watering issue. Perhaps I'm overwatering.
It's in a planter and I've been watering it along with some other little fruit trees that are enjoying a good soak. Maybe this one doesn't like it so much.

I'll let it dry out a bit and see if it starts to feel better. The leaves aren't dry or very brittle, just brown and dying.

Thanks for the suggestion x

Hi apple trees are prone too fire blight I reported mine last year, thought it would flourish but all the leaves turned black as if they had been burnt. I did what Monty Don said and got some secateurs and disinfectant and cut it right back. It's growing back well but no apples this year. That said my leaves had a noticeably blackened appearance whereas yours look brown. Something to keep an eye out for though.

Can you plant it in the ground instead of a pot? I think it would be happier, and once established shouldn't need watering (unless there's a major drought).

It's a dwarf mini gala patio tree. Apparently it's a pot loving tree. The info sheet said I could try to plant it next year but they're happy in planters. (It was pretty much a tiny twig when it arrived much to my surprise)

How big is the pot you've got it in? I think I can just make out the edge of your pot in the pic, and it looks a bit small to me.

Big pot. The wee sapling looks lost and alone in it. Grin I've held off on the watering for a couple of days and the brown leaves are still dying off but anything further down is fresh and alive. New leaves growing. I may lose some but I think it may just make it.
