We have just moved into a house and we have this tree in the back. Is this a plum tree, i thought the blossoms looked like apple but the fruit looks more like plums to me

Yes , very definitely plum

Yes plums! I’m jealous, our tiny tree only has 2 this year. Hope they’re delicious!

Brilliant. Will make some jam once it's ripe

If it's anything like our tree, they will tantalisingly ripen and ripen....then the tree will be completely stripped bare on the day they are actually ready and we won't get a single one 😭

When are they normally ripe enough to eat

It will depend on the variety. We have a couple of different plum trees, there's a yellow one which will be ripe very soon (mid July usually) and a couple of Victoria (pinky/purple) plums which are ripe in August/September. You will be able to tell, they colour up first then just gently squeeze them every couple of days and you'll be able to feel when they are soft enough to eat.

Apple and plum are both in the rose family so flowers are similar to each other (and in overall form to wild roses)
