Small beech tree in pot - leaves browning

I have a very small beech that is currently in a pot while we figure out where it's going to live. It came into leaf beautifully, but within the past two weeks the leaves have started to brown and are now all completely crisp and brown. It was being watered regularly (I thought!). Can I save it? Any idea what on earth happened?

How small - what size is it, and how big is the pot?

it's probably due to watering or due to temperature changes of the pot.
especially if the pot is exposed to the sun on hot days.
usually the tree recovers.

Thank you all. I might try planting it in the ground then and hope for the best. Tree is about 2 and a half feet tall, not sure of the pot capacity I'm afraid but it's not quite as tall as the tree itself if that makes sense?! I'm wondering if the roots are trying to shoot down deeper than it can manage, or if it's thirstier than I thought. Just one way to find out if it's saveable, I suppose!

I've got a salix in a pot that I'm currently having to give around 4 litres a day because it's been so dry here.

It happened to my magnolia the first two years in a pot.

Totally recovered. I think I over watered.

Wow. I think I've probably been underwatering, and possibly also sunbaking it a little.
