Overnight slug deterrent - Wrap around my young climber with cling film??

I'm going crazy with those little ugly bastards eating up my young plant every night. I've been trying different things every day, nothing worked!

Nematode down the soil last Thursday. Copper ring fence around. Strulch garden straw mulch. Garlic spray. Sharp sand. Yeast trap.

I'm really losing my mind on this. Last night, I spent nearly 2 hours back and forth just to catch them around my plant to reduce the chance of further damage. But I could only do it for that long - drowned them in the yeast trap. This morning the first thing was further damage to the lower leaves which are nearly all chewed up into hollow skeletons...

Since the plant is a climber, I can't protect it from any slugs got close via the fence or the trellis netting I put up. So I'm consider to use cling film tonight to wrap around the lower branches of the plant. Not wrapping up tight, but with some support structure with bamboo stakes. Have anyone tried similar things? Did it help?

Sorry for the quick typing with lots of grammar mistakes!

The bastards have eaten ally dahlias so I feel your pain! I have bought some pet friendly pellet things that act as a physical barrier and they seem (touch wood!) To be working so far. I had thought of wrapping plastic bottles round them too (with copper round the top) so maybe that will do the trick! Good luck! They seem to be particularly bad this year!

What sort of climber is it and have you got it attached to anything to climb up?

I have read that diatomaceous Earth stops them. I haven't yet tried it. I spray my slug tender plants with cold strong instant coffee - all over the leaves and stems. Apparently the caffeine is poisonous to them so they leave alone. Drawback is if it rains then you're scuppered.

Talking of coffee, I think I read somewhere that you can spread used coffee grounds round the plants.

I have not found used coffee grounds do anything, and my research tells me that they don't retain enough caffeine to deter the slugs. Sadly. Also tried and failed - crushed eggshells and spiky plastic rings. Sigh.

No, nothing worked so far. I tried chilli pepper all over/around. Didn't help. Again more holes this morning!

I had a mixture of garlic water and chilly pepper powder this evening to try. But not hopeful at all, as it's been disappointing/frustrating every morning.

Copper rings stop only big slugs. No use to the small ones. Probably because the electric pulses generated by these are too weak to deter them.

I think the yeast trap made things worse thought. The damage was not so bad before I tried it.

I use copper rings for everything but they do need to be pushed right into the earth and you do need to make sure you dont trap any slugs inside them - eg lurking on the plant. I use a single ‘organic’ slug pellet inside the ring when I put them on the plants.

Not tried it myself but watched a video where someone put cut cola bottle around base of plant and smeared it all (the bottle) with vaseline...apparently they cant climb over vaseline.
