It's a dogwood. I have two the same and they're glorious.

Excellent, thanks all! It's so beautiful; I'd like one in my garden-that-I'll-have-soon.

@HBGKC

How on earth can a couple of posters see them but no one else?!! Gah. I was relying on MN's gardening hive mind to help me out!
It takes time to upload photos to the servers, and I'd guess perhaps may be different servers for browser, mobile and tablet apps. There's often a variable delay.Smile

Glad the photo finally appeared - it is a lovely plant.

I just looked it up on Google lens and it's this Kousa Dogwood

HasaDigaEebowai · 20/06/2021 08:32

Definitely Cornus Kousa. I have one in a pot in my patio.

Be aware that the bracts don’t last very long.

HBGKC · 22/06/2021 08:00

Thanks Hasa; I pass it on my way home from school every day, so I'll be able to observe what it looks like in each season.

Whilst I do love beautiful blossoms, I'm even more focused on beautiful stem/branch structures that look interesting all year round. If anyone can suggest shrubs or small trees that match this description, I'd be grateful.

Have a look at Contorted Hazel/Corkscrew Hazel, especially lovely in spring when displaying catkins.

Looks like a heap of dishrags the rest of the year.

Ours looks better now I’ve pruned the lower branches to reveal the twisted trunk, but it’s 30 years old. It’s been a long wait
