Cow parsley maybe

hedgehogger1 · 19/06/2021 13:00

The first one probably although they are pretty similar

SongsForSwingingLovers · 19/06/2021 13:21

There are so many Umbellifers which look quite similar that I would be hesitant to make an identification. Some are highly toxic. Check out the photo gallery here.

I think your first photo is yarrow in the daisy family, the flowers are a little out of focus but you could verify that with google. The second is an umbellifer as PP have said, wild carrot is similar.

SallyCinnabon · 19/06/2021 14:16

My plant ID app says the left is yarrow and the right is wild carrot ?

SallyCinnabon · 19/06/2021 14:18

Achillea. Comes in lots of colours too.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/06/2021 15:29

I agree that the first is achillea. Not so common to see it in white .

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/06/2021 15:30

Is the second an Ammi ?

hedgehogger1 · 19/06/2021 18:18

Thanks all. I will check these out!

The second one is Daucus Carota .

Well, except of course for common yarrow itself in meadows!Grin

The first one definitely is not yarrow, which has far more finely divided leaves. It’s not cow parsley either, I’m not even sure it’s an umbellifer. The defining feature of an umbellifer is that all the flower stalks come off from the same place, like the inner supporting ribs of an umbrella (each stalk may then produce another mini-umbrella of its own), and I’m not sure that’s the case with yours. If it were an umbellifer, the leaves should clinch it - they’re quite strange for a umbellifer.

The distinctive characteristic of the second is the fine bracts around the flowers - the only umbellifer I know with those is wild carrot, Daucus carota, though your plant has particularly splendid bracts. So I wouldn’t have the certainty of SirVix.

Yes, I would agree with Sally that the first has the leaf shape of Achillea filipendulina. That’s not what is known in the UK as yarrow, which is Achillea millefolium.

A. filipendulina has yellow flowers, and I can’t find a variety with white flowers. But it looks to be on the right track.
