Dry Creek Riverbed

Has anyone ever made one of these? I really like them and plan a small area with grass type plants then have it extending snake like across the front of my patio.

This is a screen grab from a website to show what they can look like. The grass in front of the patio is a bit damaged due to the building work so it will also cover up this sad looking bit of lawn.

I think it looks great.
I had one planned for a garden several houses ago, but then I moved house, so it never got done. But I still love the look of it.

Lovely - they often do that sort of thing in Japanese gardens.

I’m sorry but I really don’t think it looks good at all.
If it had fountains running along it to make it a water feature I’d like it, some nice plants either side, maybe some acers, but as it is, no I really don’t like it at all.

I agree. That one in the photo just looks odd.

Agree about that picture looking off, it isn't very well done.

It might work in a Japanese style garden if it was properly integrated as one element of that 'landscape'.
Or possibly if it was wide enough and positioned to serve functionally as a path.

But it's so barren... seems to me there are so many more interesting and alive things that could be done with the space.

I found a much better looking version and yes it would sort of be a path errolthedragon and if done would lead down from a mound with either monoliths or a pagoda on. The garden is being totally redesigned, so far we have only done about a quarter. We have had a patio put in with bamboo screening, removed an overgrown urhododendron and one lilac, we kept the other lilac. We also removed a wild rose that was choking the actual bed that has rose buses in it. We have spent today reshaping a laurel tree. It’s actually a very big job overall and will take months. We had a new drive and garden gates put in and have bought olive trees for the front porch. I didn’t realise just how much everything was going to cost, it’s eye watering.

I much prefer that second picture @Auntienumber8. I saw the plant pot you made with the stones and I think you did fabulous so I'm sure you'll smash this project too. Sorry to hear about the costs, but I do look forward to seeing your end results Smile

Oh yeah, most definitely.
I have very modest sized gardens (small terrace) and when we moved in I thought it would no problem for DH to just pull up the hedges and I’d plant some lovely flowers.
It would be gorgeous that summer.
Oh. My. Days.
The tools required, the compost, the seeds, plants, hardscape.
It’s taken years and we still aren’t fully there (though we are close now!).
I dread to think how much we have spent.
In the thousands definitely.
It is extremely rewarding though when it all goes together.
