Does anyone have an outdoor mirror?

I've got a brick wall at the bottom of a very small cottage garden and would love to put a mirror up, and grow plants around. I've seen lots of pictures on Instagram and it always looks pretty.

I'm just worried about birds flying into it, there's a lot of birds coming into the garden and blackbirds nesting. Has anyone had this problem? If anyone could recommend a large mirror supplier that's not too expensive also please say. I found one online but it's a couple of grand Shock

No, but I quite fancy one.
Next door have one, and I don't think they have any more problems with birds flying into it than I do with my conservatory and, weirdly, one of the windows at the front of the house.

I would like one too. Interested to hear recommendations/ pictures .

Just a warning, depending on which way your garden faces, you could wind up getting dazzling sunlight in your eyes everytime you look out your windows.

Our garden is west facing. There's already a couple of nails in the wall so I already put up an indoor mirror for half a day, just to see the affect. Indoor mirror is too small but it gave me a bit of an idea.
The thing is I've seen a lot on Amazon and almost bought one, but then low down on the reviews which were all good, someone mentioned that it wasn't made of real glass. I would like real glass for a better effect I think.

I would like one but they are a fire risk. Just said I would mention it as I follow a gardening group on Facebook.

My neighbours got a lovely one with a wee planter that runs along the bottom. No birds seem to fly into it, they seem to prefer my windows Hmm

UneAstuce · 11/06/2021 11:33

Any recommendations anyone?

Isn't it a fire risk unless it's in complete shade?

UneAstuce · 11/06/2021 11:34

Here's the wall!

They are so dangerous, I don't understand the trend.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 11/06/2021 11:54

Not only are they a fire risk they are also dangerous to birds.

I have one it's in the courtyard type space by the kitchen to make it a bit brighter

The danger with birds is not them flying into them its a territorial thing, they attack their own reflection thinking its another bird in their territory, it causes them great distress and and can damage wings and beaks. Once they start they are relentless and can really hurt themselves.

UneAstuce · 11/06/2021 12:14

Oh no I'm put off by the idea of birds attacking their reflections. Fire risk not so much - obviously I'm not planning to position it opposite anything flammable Hmm

Its not about positioning it opposite against anything flammable, the suns reflection to set fire to the grass or all sorts
PurpleMustang · 11/06/2021 12:30

*could set fire

I think this statement proves in spades why these mirrors should not be available for sale.
They are so, so dangerous.

applesandpears33 · 11/06/2021 20:50

I've been looking at the decorative panels which are made by Charles and Ivy and Screen With Envy. Some of them would look good on that wall as an alternative to a mirror.

UneAstuce · 11/06/2021 22:04

I think this fire thing is a bit alarmist - it's very common to have mirrors outside and plenty of reputable places stock them. I will investigate further.
