My name is Rosebush and I’m a plant hoarder...anyone else?

It’s just occurred to me that I’m a terrible plant hoarder. I can’t say no to a cutting from a friend, always fall for sale emails from nurseries, love a browse round a garden centre and never leave empty handed, always look at the b&q poorly shelf, I nurture plants that a probably just need composted.

As a result my quite small garden is full of pots, seed trays, my window sills are bursting and my borders are way too full and noth8ng has room to grow and breathe.

It never looks finished.

Anyone else? Do I need help? Do I need to learn to let go? Sell things? Leave out for free t9 good home?

At least we have something to show for our little habit. It's doing wonders for wildlife, the environment and local businesses. We are providing a valuable service!

Yes, I feel a little bit smug when I get a good score on those “how pollinator-friendly is your garden?” quizzes!

It’s mostly a hobby that’s good for the gardener and good for the environment and at the moment the U.K. horticultural trade needs all the support it can get.

I'm sure I read that Alan Titchmarsh has the same tendency and has an orderly queue of plants to go in... I'm positive about about seeing that because I remember thinking "Phew, I'm not alone in my habit of buying plants that I have no idea where they are going to go!" Blush

Last time I saw Alan Titchmarsh was at Chelsea Flower Show where he had a not so orderly queue of middle aged groupies hanging on his every word. You could almost smell the HRT patches working overtime to counter the surging hormones.

I have a Chinese red birch coming on Friday. I'm so excited. I actually have room for it because I cut a Red Robin right back. I also have another space next to an Acer, and I have to put something there to protect the poor little Acer. So all very necessary. Plus I have an empty terracotta pot, just the perfect size for another rose...

I am trying to only do necessary things. But I may have to move a very small holly.

I've been very good for the last month. Till yesterday, when I was left on my own for the day and I decided to go on a mooch around some garden centres I've not been to for a while.

I went to the first, and bought 4 plants. Went to the second, which I've not actually been to before - and bought 7 plants including the evergreen magnolia that I had in mind for a particular spot.

I decided that I should not continue after this 😳

I've snuck them out of the car and into the gathering of plants waiting for the new flower bed to be prepared so DP doesn't know how many I actually bought. I've admitted 3 but he smells a rat. I've told him if he thinks I bought more he has to point them out to me 😀
