Help me care for this strawberry plant please (pic in comments)

I had a beautiful strawberry plant given to me recently which has been sitting very happily on my kitchen windowsill.

I'm absolutely clueless about plants and I wondered should I plant it in a pot and put it outside?

How do I stop birds and insects from eating it and will I get some of those berries I can see growing?
Thanks

Oh and what about watering? It's currently sat in an empty humous pot to catch the drips!

It needs to go outside, strawberries require a cold period (winter) to grow properly and set fruit next year.

I have loads and they grow in most soil types (I have them in heavy clay and a very loose compost heavy soil), in full sun or partial shade.

They don’t like to dry out!
So keep an eye to make sure it’s not starting to wilt in the summer heat and water if you see any wilting.

They are usually relatively trouble free, sometimes slugs will eat the fruit and ants will take any left over but despite having a garden absolutely heaving with both it’s rare I get much, if any damage to my strawberries.
A lot of people have terrible trouble with birds but they tend to prefer my cherries Angry
Taut netting will keep birds off.

Most strawberries will produce runners, these are long stems that run off from the main plant and root in the soil producing new baby strawberry plants.

Each plant has a lifespan of roughly 5 years, year 4 and 5 are usually very poor for fruit so try and keep track of the age of your plants and bin them at 3/4 years.
