Rowan tree

I'd love a rowan tree in our back garden, but apparently they grow really tall. Would it be too big for our averagely sized garden? Anyone got one?

My garden is tiny 14 feet by 21 and I have lots of trees, including a Rowan. They are a Beautiful light airy tree, they don’t grow particularly fast and are very easy to prune.

I have two. Sorbus hypehensis pink pagoda. Blossom in spring and delicate pink berries in November with lovely orangey leaves.
They won’t grow that big and pretty compact. I love them

They’re not particularly big trees, as trees go

We have one outside our front (street tree) - its crown is about the height of our first floor windows. It’s fully mature and not been pruned in the 10+ years we’ve been here,
So I guess that’s its true maximum height.

Very pretty tree, lovely shape with lots of interest.

No, they don't, really.

Also, they are very slim, so not too dominant.

Ours is 40 years old and reaches the top of our first floor windows. It’s got a spreading leaf canopy but you can get varieties that are more upright.

Lovely trees.

Also consider a hawthorn trained as a tree or a small field maple.

I have rowans popping up all over the garden, none of them get particularly tall, the leaves are finely cut so it doesn't block out the light. Cracking little tree.

Great advice on here, thanks. Think it's going to be a rowan for our garden!

I’ve got Sorbus cashmiriana (white berries) which is supposedly 6m after 20 years. Mine is about 3.5m after 15.

Decorhate · 04/06/2021 13:05

I love Rowans & agree they don’t grow too tall. My mum has one that must be nearly 50 years old & maybe 15 feet tall.

Cakeonthefloor · 06/06/2021 09:06

Lots of different types. Some are smaller or narrower than others. Great for wildlife too.

I really like the idea of one now, that's great.
