Hi,
My son planted this plant in pre-school in early March. Originally, I thought it's a tulip or daffodil, but obviously, it can't be either of those. It is over 1 meter hight now, and I have no idea what it is (he's not in the same pre school anymore, so I can't ask them).
Does anyone know what it could be?

Gladioli?

@MamaWeasel

Gladioli?
That would be lovely, but dont they have shorter leaves?

Do the leaves end in a sort of spike? What's the texture of the leaves like?

TwinklyTits · 11/05/2021 21:09

Crocosmia?

I wouldn't say that they end in a spike, no. I'm not a gardener (and not British), so don't quite know how to describe the texture, but they're not smooth, and I can clearly feel the lines. Also, the leaves seem to be splitting to multiply (I've attaches a picture to show this).

Freesia?

I have giant crocosmia in my garden and the leaves are exactly like your second photo. Though mine are in the garden and haven't made an appearance yet.

Thank you all so much.I really wasn’t expecting any answers, especially not so fast. I’ve looked at some more pictures, and I believe MamaWeasel might be right, and it’s a gladioli. I wouldn’t rule out crocosmia either though. Maybe I‘ll just need to plant it in the garden and —try not to kill it— wait for some flowers

Good luck with it!

ethelredonagoodday · 11/05/2021 22:01

Crocosmia or maybe an iris?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/05/2021 08:48

A moment of pedantry “a gladiolus”. “Gladioli” is the plural. No wonder people take the easy option and call them “Glads”!

MamaWeasel · 14/05/2021 22:59

@meredintofpandiculation I consider myself well and truly corrected, and will not repeat the offence Grin

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 14/05/2021 23:00

Could be a day lily

MotherOfCrocodiles · 14/05/2021 23:01

My dd has one similar from her preschool - my mum says it is sweet corn !
