What plants for my front yard?

Hello! I am a complete gardening novice after some tips and guidance on what might look good in my front yard.

I don't think I can send pictures because I'm a new member Sad

Basically I am after tall (grows to about 5 feet) and bushy (will spread up to 1m ish) plants, preferably that flowers to add a bit of colour. I need to cover up a wall as much as possible.

I was thinking of a simple bush at the back (but what?) then even red hot pokers in front of that.

My garden is east-facing so gets full sun until about 1pm. I've been told the soil's acidic.
Once I am allowed to post pictures, I absolutely will do.

Any suggestions for plants really appreciated. Thank you!

I'm only anti- Day lillies because the bloody things get everywhere once they've decided they like your garden 😂 they are pretty but so are the other things that they swamp! Still forewarned is forearmed- they caught me out as hadn't had them before.

Ooh - if you're near a Morrisons they have some dwarf acers, Japanese maples, for £3. They can go in containers, remember to water, or the soil and the ones I saw grow to 1.5m tall with a 1m spread.

Oh brilliant. I'm off to Morrisons later this week Smile

For tallish perennials, I would look at salvias, penstemon, crocosmia, nepeta. They are all quite strong growing so if you choose the right variety they shouldn’t need too much in the way of staking. All summer flowering though so you will need some evergreen things / bulbs to tide you over.
