I’d be very grateful for opinions on this plants. It looks like “something” but I can’t remember planting anything here particularly. Thanks.

Looks like an Arum.

Looks like cuckoo pint/lords and ladies. It's a wild plant/weed.

WhatMattersMost · 09/05/2021 20:46

Cuckoo-pint, yes. I dislike them intensely - and they're buggers to pull out.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/05/2021 21:22

Poisonous too...but the red berries are quite attractive. But probably not in a garden.

TrojaninTroy · 09/05/2021 21:48

It is true they are poisonous. If you decide to take them out, make sure you are wearing thick gardening glove, as they can give you a horrible rash on your hands.

Lords and Ladies. I have so many of those in my garden. I think they like woodland areas. When you dig them out you have to go deep and get the bulb out - easier said than done.

Thanks all!! I thought it might be some gorgeous plant I’d forgotten all about!

Wild arum is gorgeous! Flower a light green spathe like an arum lily, followed by a spike of red berries which seems to light up the shade. The continental equivalent species, Arum italicum, goes one better with leaf markings, and, although a wild plant over there, is sold as a garden plant over here.
