I told him but he knew best.🙄

What do I do with it? Shed being painted and there will be a clematis planted just in front of alley to grow over shed.Maybe a big grass too to the side against the fence. But wondering about something over the fence at the back and ground cover to deter weeds?

Just to add I hate that rock rose to the right, he loves it. Wondering if I should have an accident.😈

How about attaching trellis between the fence and shed and growing jasmine or honeysuckle up it?

BlueSp1re · 02/05/2021 18:48

Will they not need sun?

Oh sorry you mean to stop weeds have I read it wrong? I would put down weed membrane and gravel then put up some trellis to grow the clematis

BlueSp1re · 02/05/2021 18:50

The gap looks a tad big though. Wondering if something was needed on back fence or fence to left of shed to fill it up a bit.

The space to the left of the shed would be perfect for a water butt.

BlueSp1re · 02/05/2021 18:54

Water butt going other side as wouldn’t be able to access it there. Border in front will be full.

I would embrace the weeds & call it the wildlife area.
Establish a clear boundary beyond which no brambles may pass. If you put a hedgehog hole in the fence nearby it will be a perfect place for a hog house.

BlueSp1re · 02/05/2021 19:11

Weeds in our garden tend to be brambles.😩

Brambles are great for pollinating insects & nesting birds!
Just hack at them with a machete when they start to get ideas above their station.

Knittedfairies · 02/05/2021 19:53

I'd put a weed suppressant membrane and gravel down. (FWIW, I think he's put it in the right place - he'll need the space for maintenance)

RogueMNerKnowsNoShame · 02/05/2021 19:55

Great place to stash corpses of DHs who always know best...

BlueSp1re · 02/05/2021 19:58

Do you have kids? If so, find a way of roofing it and making it into a kids den of some sort?

TheSpottedZebra · 02/05/2021 20:20

Ach that'll fill up in no time with garden canes, swingball, spare wood, bits of useful crap...

BlueSp1re · 02/05/2021 20:22

Yeah kind of hoping to avoid that. Has just taken us 2 days to clear the crap.

I'd put a planter with trellis attached at the front of the gap, then you can use the side for storage and it I'll be hidden.

Ivy48 · 02/05/2021 20:25

I’d pop some grave/slate down (Asda/Tesco sell
3 bags for £9, cheaper than b&q etc) add some trellis and a few nice pots? Add plants that like shade or even a tree that enjoys shade

Stoptalkingtome · 02/05/2021 20:25

*it'll be hidden.

Don't worry, I'm not coming round to hide in your garden.

Cowbells · 02/05/2021 20:26

It's a bike store! Put some flagstones down and attach a small eaves-style shelter to the side of the shed so bike doesn't get wet. Or prop wheelbarrow there.

burritofan · 02/05/2021 20:27

Bin for leaf mould?

FelicityBeedle · 02/05/2021 20:32

Shelf brackets on shed and fence, shelves you can slide on or off as needed for all those little bits of crap that accumulate? Shelves can then be removed easily for repainting

EventuallyDistracted · 02/05/2021 20:37

We deliberately left a gap about 18" wide round our shed so we could access it dor maintenance and largely leave it to it's own devices. We get ferns, periwinkles, nettles, doc leaves, bindweed (I do pull out the latter as it can take over). Although we have a lot of brambles they seem to find it too dark there and haven't invaded.

BluePeterVag · 02/05/2021 21:01

We have a gap next to our shed, we use it for maintenance. My plan is to put something like this in the gap. I don’t mind if it never lights up much, but I like the design.

BluePeterVag · 02/05/2021 21:02

Should add, I’m going to put fake plants in it. IKEA have some good ones.
