How can I help my hydrangeas

They were replanted last year into very large tubs and did really well. I cut back the dead blooms and up until a month ago they were growing well. But now there are lots of new leaves but they have brown edges. I am watering (so dry here - can't remember when we last had rain) but I am missing something?

Could it be frost damage?

Oh could be!
Any tips?

Sounds like frost damage, new leaves will grow and the damaged ones won't be as noticeable.

Mine have crispy leaves as well. We have had so many frosty nights here.

It'll be frost. My hydrangeas lost a whole year once from a particularly vicious late frost.

(I have some sweet pea seedlings
which have been in my kitchen for weeks waiting to be planted out but it's heen frosty every single morning for bloody weeks. They're in danger of using a kitchen cupboard as a stake!)

Probably frost. Mine,in a pot, was the same which is why I've waited till now to cut it back to greener shoots. Still no guarantee as the night temperatures are still low.
They should survive ok but may not flower very much this year.

I agree about frost damage. I have a large hydrangea which has done well for years. I never cut the flowers from the previous year off till a nice day in spring so it doesn't get frosted. But this year has caught me out, some of the leaves are brown edged , never noticed that before. Suppose it's these late frosts have got to it, l cut the dead flowers off too soon.

Thank you

Watch out for frost and cover them with horticultural fleece, secured with clothes pegs.

It's official. We have had the frostiest April since records began.

I would give them a fed with tomato food to help promote new green growth. If you don’t have any then any all purpose feed but liquid is best diluted with rain water watering the base of the plant.
