Is this wild garlic? PHOTO

I'm pretty sure this is wild garlic.
Q1 - can anyone confirm that?
Q2 - would you ever think it acceptable to re-home some from the edges of an overgrown car park?

Yes and yes

nimbuscloud · 28/04/2021 21:29

Yes and yes also.
I rehomed some 3 years ago and it has multiplied a hundred fold!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/04/2021 21:29

Looks like it. Does it smell of garlic?

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/04/2021 21:30

Yes, but it is also very invasive so don’t put anywhere it can spread.

SwanShaped · 28/04/2021 21:30

Doesn’t look like it to me. Wild garlic normally has wider leaves. Can you get a better photo of the flowers? Does it smell like garlic?

JetBlackSteed · 28/04/2021 21:31

Mmm. Not sure. Wild garlic flowers are pointy star shape.
And it smells of garlic even to walk past.
Does that plant smell?

Ethelswith · 28/04/2021 21:33

I'm not sure, looks a bit spindly.

But if it is, be aware that it's an invasive thug. I had one plant from a friend's garden, and it's all over the place now

MowldyStupidAndAssive · 28/04/2021 21:33

That's definitely not wild garlic.

Possibly 3 cornered leek, but hard to tell from the photos.

Wild garlic leaves are far broader and smell strongly of garlic, and the flowers are like a ball of tiny flowers.

BippityBobbityBoo · 28/04/2021 21:35

Doesn’t look like it to me either

Ducksurprise · 28/04/2021 21:35

I'm not convinced either

LavendulaAngustifolia · 28/04/2021 21:35

Absolutely not wild garlic. It's more likely to be 3 cornered leek.

Ouchiehelpneeded · 28/04/2021 21:36

Looks like three cornered leeks www.wildfooduk.com/edible-wild-plants/three-cornered-leek/

Very invasive. Our garden is overrun and I spend lots of time pulling them up. They are edible though, nice with lamb!

Postdatedpandemic · 28/04/2021 21:36

Looks like three cornered leek, which is probably more invasive than japanese knotweed.
Makes good pesto though.

whatisheupto · 28/04/2021 21:37

I agree the leaves would be broader and a deeper green too (hard to tell from photo but they look a bit yellowy). Also the flower stem looks too tall (again hard to be sure from photo)

BettyOBarley · 28/04/2021 21:37

I'm no gardener but our local park has lots of wild garlic in the wooded area and the leaves are much shorter and wider and you can smell it.

Firststariseetonight · 28/04/2021 21:40

Not wild garlic. Could be three cornered leek but the flowers look more like few flowered leek to me. All edible and equally delicious, all highly invasive and should not be planted or otherwise introduced into the wild.

Ouchiehelpneeded · 28/04/2021 21:40

@PlanDeRaccordement

Yes, but it is also very invasive so don’t put anywhere it can spread.
It can spread via seeds so even if the roots are contained it will spread like buggery. Definitely to be avoided!

SwanShaped · 28/04/2021 21:41

Actually looks like few flowered garlic.

emmafou1807 · 28/04/2021 21:42

It is very very invasive! My garden is now overrun with it and the bulbs are so small you'll never get them all back up so it just spreads and spreads

EssentialHummus · 28/04/2021 21:42

Three cornered leek! Put it in a pot, use it to make pesto.

Dryadia · 28/04/2021 21:45

I have some shop bought wild garlic in my fridge and the leaves are not the same as your picture. Like others have said leaves are wider

Example form Abel & Cole here

Three-Cornered Leek

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/04/2021 21:45

Definitely not wild garlic (Allium ursinum, Ramsons) which as PP say has much wider leaves

Probably three-cornered leek (Allium triquetrum) which, since it is also an Allium (the genus of onion, leek, chives and garlic), has the same structure to the individual flowers, and smells of garlic.

MowldyStupidAndAssive · 28/04/2021 22:10

shop bought wild garlic Shock

They sell it?? WTF? How much does it cost?

[eyes surrounding countryside with $$ in mind]

Dryadia · 29/04/2021 05:12

MowldyStupidAndAssive

Abel & Cole sell a range of wild herbs, mushrooms and veg from accredited sustainable foragers, inc seaweeds ( bloody expensive).
