I am a complete novice garden owner, I cannot even claim to be a gardener.
I have been watching too many gardening videos including Bunny Guiness talking about baseless plant pots that allow the roots to grow down into the ground. Hers are on a patio area with a hole dug out underneath.
Has anyone done this and would this work in my situation? I have nesting birds in a cherry laurel at the back of my garden. I also have a gap in the planting. I was hoping to buy a mature tall western red cedar, pot it up in a lovely planter and then place it in the gap.
Obviously I cannot dig a hole for it because I do not want to scare the birds hence the pot idea plus it would give some much needed impact (pot and plant) and privacy we need. Just gently pop it down next to the laurel.
I am happy to be told this is a ridiculous idea if it is
