This is in a friend's garden. I thought it was aconite but the leaves are wrong. It's on the tip of my tongue but I can't get it. Any ideas?

It’s lesser celandine, very pretty, but if you disturb the roots they break off and spread. I have a few along the edge of the lawn and they’re quite charming. After spring they die back and completely disappear till next spring.

Marsh marigold I think.

I thought Marsh Marigold (King Cup). Leaves don't loom like celandine to me.

Another vote for Marsh Marigold. I did think Celandine initially but zooming the photo, the petals are more rounded than Celandine's which are more narrow, slightly more daisy-like.

Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris) likes its feet damp/wet, usually frequenting ditches and ponds/boggy areas (palustris meaning "of marshland"). Is your friend's garden on the damp side?

You’re all correct, Marsh Marigold. 😊

@TheNoodlesIncident I wouldn't have said so at all - it's quite odd that it's where it is really.

Lesser celandine has more petals, they're thinner, and they have more pointed tips. They also have only one flower to the stem. The thickness of that stem suggests (though you can't see from the photo) that there are more than one flower buds to each stem. All of this confirms Marsh marigold.
