Forget me nots and lily of valley

Pretty sure DH has accidentally pulled these out thinking they were weeds - last year. Le sigh.

Anyway, I am seeing conflicting advice on how to get them again, both here when we moved in so never planted them. I see other gardens with forget me nots already. Is it too late to plant from seed or should we wait till autumn?

Thanks.

They are best from seed they will develop this year, but flower next spring. They self sow very freely, so it be surprised if you didn’t see some popping up in unexpected places.
In the mean time Bunnera are a related perennial plant which you should be able to find in the garden centres now.
Lilly if the Valley spreads by runners, so again you might find some still in the soil and popping up. If not they are also in garden centres now.

I can get some forget me not seeds, is now the right time or should we delay?

You can scatter the seeds now. I just take a seed head and shake it over the area I want them in next year.

Thank you.

If your OH has managed to pull out every forget me not plant and dormant seed then he must have the sharpest eyes and the patience of a saint!

There are some plants that are like cockroaches, they always come back. I was horrified on GW this week to hear mind your own business being recommended, it was also mentioned as a good thing for ground cover in a gardening column in the Guardian. Don’t, just don’t is my advice. At least with forget me not you can clear the old plants once the seed has ripened , but mind your own business never stops.........

I have mind your own business. It gets everywhere, but isn’t hard to pull out, so isn’t the worst nuisance in my garden. That’s probably wood avens or Alchemilla mollis
