Weeds!

Hello,
Very new to gardening. I'm 9 months pregnant with a toddler. My husband works a lot. In short I'm looking for a quick solution to get rid of weeds that have sprung up in the cracks of my patio. It's hard for me to be bending pulling them out. Is there a product I can spray on that will kill them off? Some are big and stubborn!

I do have a toddler and a dog but will be careful to wash it away after or whatever the precautions are - if this exists.

Thank you!

You can get a weed wand, it's a mini flamethower powered by a gas canister, that will do the job, no bending apart from removing dead weeds and no chemicals. The weeds don't look dead immediately but should die within a few days. Might need a few goes if they are big and strong, it's best to do it regularly when they are still small.

white vinegar gets did of them.

White vinegar, salt and boiling water are all effective at getting rid of paving weeds. You can try them individually or all together.
After a while you will need to repeat, as more weeds seed in the gaps.

Agree with boiling water, you don't need to bend down (though cover your legs in case of splashes), it's perfectly safe after a minute or so, and easy to do.

In your situation I would go for using something like pathclear
www.wilko.com/en-uk/weedol-pathclear-weedkiller-6-tubes/p/0330965
It will kill the weeds and keep the area weed free for a period of months.
Just keep children and dogs off the area until dried.

Does boiling water really work? It seems too easy! (And cheap!)

Beebumble2 · 20/04/2021 15:53

Most living things would struggle under a drenching of boiling water. You may have to repeat the process.

If you were drenched in boiling water, would you survive?

Boiling water does work, I have tried it but in my case it was the block paved driveway that needed weeding, and it was a lot of walking to and from the kitchen at the back of the house for refills of the kettle. So the weed wand is easier.

Haha good points, well made @Beebumble2 and @MrsBertBibby!!
