Hardy Dahlias

Morning all, I am a lazy gardener but fancy trying some dahlia. I will grow from seed and do not intend to lift for the winter. I was wondering if anyone has had success not lifting and have found any types more hardy? I am well aware that on really cold years they won't overwinter but I can start again from seed.
So any suggestions?

Yes! Bishops Children! Lovely dark purple leaves, beautiful colours. Sarah Raven sells the seed, they are very easy. Mine survived several years outside over winter.

I dead head them as often as possible, they kept going like that right through September. I just stick some compost over the tubers after cutting them back when the frosts come and they are fine.

I guess them up last autumn as they needed splitting, and I think they haven't made it, but who cares? I have a new tray of seedlings on their way!

I'm a complete novice. You do know you can start from tuber, rather than seeds? I got tubers from aldi and lidl a few years ago and bought more this year. The ones I planted 5yrs ago in pots still come up. I never fleeced or covered them, nor even dug them up. I don't think I ever dead headed them either! No idea of the variety, but presumably something common that aldi/lidl sell.

Thanks both.

Mrsbertbibby they look amazing. Yes Elouers, I did know about tubers but I can get so many more plants from seed and then I won't care so much if the cold gets to them.
