Please help me with my monkey mask monstera

Bought this two weeks ago. Originally put it on a windowsill with a half-shut blind but some leaves turned yellow, so I moved it here in a slightly darker spot. More yellow leaves coming though- I gave it a bit of water once a week same as my regular monstera but it seems unhappy and the soil is so dry! Thoughts? I’m afraid of overwatering it. Should I put water in the bottom of the plant cover so it can drink what it wants?

Take it out of the decorative container so it is just in the plain pot, put it in your shower, and give the entire thing a gentle soaking, leaves and all. Let the water drain out of the holes in the bottom of the pot, and then lift it up to see how heavy it is.

Sometimes compost can become hydrophobic (ie once very dry it repels water) so you might need to repeat that every few days until the compost is moist (not soaking wet) throughout.

Leaving it standing in water won't do any good, and would probably make the roots rot at the bottom of the pot.

Leaves don't last forever. It's normal for one or two leaves at the bottom to turn yellow.

Agree with PPs. Cut the yellow leaves off if you think they’re dying. I’ve just gone around watering mine because they seem to dry out every couple of days rather than a once a week water. They’re quite dramatic, the other day my smaller one was basically flopped out of its pot simpering WOE IS ME and two hours after a good water was acting like nothing happened. I love the size of yours, may I ask where you got it?

Also don’t they tend to trail unless they’re trained up something?

Should I put water in the bottom of the plant cover so it can drink what it wants? You can do, but don't leave it there for more than a few hours. Very few plants like their roots being in soil that is too wet.

Looks ok, it's a vine so if you don't train it all around the pole it will hang down like that.

@user1473878824 I got it from a local independent garden centre, it was £32.
