Honeysuckle ID and advice

I have what is I think a common honeysuckle? Is it?!

It’s planted behind a camellia and was smothering it so last year we cut it right back. But not sure what to do really. Should I get a trellis and train it to the fence? Thanks

What colour were the flowers? Did it drop its leaves?
We've just bought a honeysuckle, Lonicera Horwood Gem - but it has different shaped leaves to yours. We've bought a trellis & will train it up that over our garage.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen it flower. I know that sounds odd. I think it’s kept some leaves but you can tell they’re sort off old tatty leaves!

In my research into honeysuckles I've found you can get evergreen, semi-evergreen & deciduous varieties - so some keep all their leaves, some drop some of them others drop all.
If you want to keep it, I'd put in some trellis or wires & train it up them.

Thanks. I’ll give it a go and see what happens....maybe we’ll get flowers!

That could be a honeysuckle - but it doesn't look as if it's a climbing one, it looks like one of the shrubby ones. So just leave it to grow and see what you get. I have three shrubby ones - one has very subtle creamy flower - pretty but not showy, one has deep red flowers, and one flowers in very early spring and has scented flowers.

Ah ok thanks. The thing is it really over hangs a camellia which it is planted right behind. That’s not good is it?!

My Camellia is hard up against a glowering currant and shaded by mature trees, but flowers well, so I wouldn't have worried too much.
