Gardening business?

Does anyone here make any money from their gardens/gardening skills? Not from doing other people’s gardens though.

I have been out of work for 3 years (it was meant to be two ((we adopted siblings))...but then covid happened). I don’t feel I can go back to my previous job title as it’s moved on so much (and in all honesty I don’t really want to re-enter the corporate world). I have an acre, that has 27 apple trees (which we currently make cider from), 5 pear trees, 7 large veg beds and a poly tunnel (I’m looking to add more veg beds). I’m very much a novice gardener, I don’t know much theory, but I do enjoy it. I managed to grow some veg that saw us through the winter. I’ve been looking at some RHS courses that are ran locally, are they worth it? Would they provide enough knowledge to make something work if I had the determination? I don’t think growing and selling veg/fruit would be worth it because I wouldn’t be able to grow enough, even if I had an outlet. Cider obviously would come with lots of licensing etc. I had thought about cuttings or making hanging baskets (i have worked out that I could make a profit from these - if (and it’s a big if) I had the market to sell them to) - but I’ve had a very brief look into it and plant passports and inspections seem to be quite complicated. IDK, I’m at a bit of a cross roads, I’m wondering what to do next and I guess I’m looking for other’s experience that have gone down this route and if it’s worthwhile to go on courses and learn more. I would have a small bit of capitol to invest, if it was the right business for me.

Reading this back and it sounds very naive, and I guess it is, I guess I’m just wondering if anything gardening wise is worth going forward with?

I have no experience of this myself but I would look for resources for small scale farmers in the U.K. Something along the same lines as Flower from the Farm (a network of small scale flower farmers and florists who help each other and newbies). The first thought that sprung to mind is selling to local veg box suppliers. Where I'm based in Bedfordshire, our local veg box company has seen an explosion in business in the past year and they try to source produce as close as possible. They sell fruit and veg but have also started teaming up with local businesses who make honey, bread, oils, flower arrangements, glass bottle milk etc.

The RHS is working to push horticultural careers at the moment, so try a good delve into their web pages for ideas.

English cut flowers is an area which is taking off at the moment.
