I'm sorry this is not my usual corner of mumsnet but I wondered if you could help.

My cat was run over last week and didn't survive his birthday was in April (I am aware this post may make me sound like a mad cat lady I'm not but he was my baby and we are all utterly devastated he was only 2) we are getting his ashes soon and want to put them in a planter with a plant/small tree that flowers around this time of year though the summer. Can anyone recommend something? We want to put it on a planter Incase we ever move.

camelia as well.

How about nepeta (catmint). It's lovely and comes in different sizes. I like nepeta six hills giant. Bees and butterflies love it too. Sorry about your cat.

You could have a standard rose in the pot too. What was your cat's name? Have a look at the David Austin website. You may find one that helps you remember him.

Camelias are great plants. We have a deep red flowering one planted where our dog laid down in the garden and took his last breath. I love that shrub x
They're also very easy to prune and maintain a lovely shape. Never tried to keep one in a planter though.

Thank you. Well our garden isn't huge (new build) so something not huge but also something that isn't likely to attract flies and wasps more than usual plants. Camelia look pretty.

So sorry for your loss. You don't sound like a mad cat lady, I'd be devastated if I lost one of mine that way, or in any way.

I'd plant one of these. They are so beautiful and as it flowers for just a short time, you could plant bulbs in with it for flowers later in the year? www.rhsplants.co.uk/plants/_/magnolia-stellata/classid.4139/

Some good suggestions already, but I’d echo the idea of trying to find a rose (or other plant) that shares his name.

Definitely a camelia, if you feed them they do well in pots they have good blooms and still an attractive tree. Lots of different colours, I have a gorgeous white one in memory of my dear cat.

I am so sorry about your poor cat.

This is a lovely idea, but can I ask, do you plan to leave the ashes in their container, or mix it in? Cat ashes are not good for plants, especially camellia and other acid loving plants.
