Climbing Plant Recommendations

Hi there, I'm a fairly novice but looking for recommendations for a good climbing plant, ideally evergreen. It's for an ugly breeze block wall. I can either put it in a pot or dig into the grounds.
Thank you

Honeysuckle are always a good, easy plant, they smell amazing when in flower and are robust and easy to grow, your other option is ivy but I always steer clear of it as it is a parasitic plant that roots into the walls.

Other options are more delicate and not evergreen like roses and clematis, are more spectacular in summer but do need more attention like pruning etc.

Ps if you can dig whatever you choose into the ground it will be happier.

There are evergreen clematis - I've got one that's winter flowering, Armandii. Also there are climbing hydrangea which are evergreen. Lonicera japonica Halliana is an evergreen climbing honeysuckle with pale yellow flowers. You just need to get the right varieties which can take some doing to find.

Paint the breeze block walk green? I have a nice climbing hydrangea, it’s not evergreen but it’s a handy place to hang bird feeder and Xmas lights in December. It’s v thirsty though so needs watering

Thanks everyone for the responses and great ideas. I like the ideas for the non pruning plants.

It's a very sunny area and covered with loose slate chippings if that has an effect on choosing the right plants Smile

Clematis bees jubilee might fit the bill? It’s versatile and can be grown in a pot but I don’t think it’s evergreen. No reason why you couldn’t mix it in with a climbing rose or a honeysuckle though!
