Walking around and saw these buds. They're massive! Does anyone know what tree this is? Thank you 😊

Is it a tree or a bush? (Just asked dh who likes gardening, I have no idea!)

francisforever · 31/03/2021 19:47

It's definitely a tree, it's very very tall with a huge trunk. I should have taken a better photo of the whole tree! Bit dark now

Chestnut I reckon.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 31/03/2021 19:50

Hard to tell without the whole tree, but I guess magnolia.

Frogsonglue · 31/03/2021 19:51

I think they're horse chestnut buds, but need to see the whole tree.

AdaColeman · 31/03/2021 19:53

Another vote for horse chestnut buds.

IHateCoronavirus · 31/03/2021 19:54

See I thought magnolia, esp if they are properly massive.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 31/03/2021 19:55

Horse chestnut

OwlBasket · 31/03/2021 19:57

Yy, horse chestnut buds. Magnolia buds really are mahosive but would be pink or white at that stage of opening

MrsBertBibby · 31/03/2021 19:59

Horse chestnut definitely. See how sticky they are!

francisforever · 31/03/2021 20:12

Oh no! I thought magnolia! This might have to be an ongoing thread as I'm Intrigued now!

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 31/03/2021 21:07

You can tell the leaves have veins and are green so definitely not a magnolia.

yamadori · 31/03/2021 21:59

It's a horse chestnut. I have one in the front garden and was looking at the swelling buds earlier today.

If you touch them, they are rather sticky.

Whatamess666 · 31/03/2021 22:28

@IstandwithJackieWeaver and @yamadori
I see that now! Thanks!
