Posted too soon.

I think pic 2 is a geranium of some kind?

Pic 3, I know I've seen it many times before but can't remember what it is.

Don't wanna leave weeds be when I should be whipping them out. Grin

Pic 3 is a buttercup type weed that spreads v easily. Yes 2 looks like some sort of geranium. Not sure about 1!

RabbiTouch · 29/03/2021 19:02

Not sure about the first one, can you dig or pull one up and see what the root's like?

I agree that the second one looks like a geranium with aquilegia at the top of the photo.

The third one is a buttercup, I think.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 29/03/2021 19:02

Creeping buttercup

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 29/03/2021 19:15

Ah yes, will whip the buttercup out then. I'll pull up one of the seedlings when I'm next outside.

Could those seedings be Honesty in their first year. They develop and flower next year.
Apologies if you already know that.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 29/03/2021 20:16

They could be, I have lots of honesty about the place but I had a feeling their seedlings had rounder leaves?

1st pic Wild pansy; 2nd Geranium; 3rd creeping buttercup.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 29/03/2021 20:46

Ah - wild pansy would make sense there and would be lovely!

1 could be jack-by-the-hedge. Don't think it's pansy. Pansy leaves have rounded teeth, not very obvious, but a bit more than this. And stipules - leafy bits at the base of the leaf stem - that's the main character used in botanical keys to distinguish between pansies and violets.

  1. Geranium sp. with some Aquilegia at the top of the picture
  1. The dark green plant is creeping buttercup (if the end segment of the leaf didn't have a stalk, then it would probably be field buttercup - for those who like to distinguish between their buttercups)
BewareTheBeardedDragon · 30/03/2021 19:10

Oh, garlic mustard! Yes - it's probably that. I had some there the year before last which didn't come up last year but I've dug a lot there and cleared the area a lot so probably disturbed seeds lying in the soil from before. I may hoick it out then because I wasn't overly impressed by the taste in 2019. Thanks 👍
