Planters

Hello all

Very new to this - new house, new decking (on top of a garage so no soil), new neighbours' windows. Where is the best place to source planters, and apart from bamboo what can I put in there which will have enough height and work for me around the year to screen off the neighbours so I can't see him doing the washing up topless, and he can't see my kids running around in pyjamas of a morning. North facing and windy. Every single neighbour of mine has bamboo 😩

There's a lesson there....

Bamboo is pretty much perfect for this job. There are a lot of varieties if you want to escape the standard ones.

Can you put a trellis up at the edge of the deck? That would filter the wind and you could grow climbers up it. I would consider something that dies back in the winter to give you more light. Even peas and beans in a big pot would work. Or raspberry canes.

You can also fix pots at different levels on the trellis to break up the view.

Are you on the first floor? It would help if you could put up a photo or draw a diagram

You can get some nice posh garden screens. Sounds like an unusual layout.

planters - the deeper the better. not sure about your garage roof, but be mindful of the weight.

for plants:
bamboo
tuja
privet
pryacantha

You can buy striped material like beach windbreaks on a roll , it has holes in it so you can tie it to posts. It’s light and waterproof .

Thank you so much - in the interests of helping you visualise what we are up against (and I don't mean that negatively - it's not a hardship it would just be nice to make it look pretty!) and just so i don't have to do any drawings (I am awful at dimensions!), here 'tis....

Now that we've been to a garden centre this morning we are really interested in something like this for the left corner.

I've looked at exactly the same one!! You have more room than I guessed you had so that arbour will definitely fit there

PS your garden might look bigger if you angle your sofa along the diagonal of the deck. You could have bamboo in pits behind it
