Frog spawn help

Hi all
Overnight a frog had laid quite a lot of spawn in a puddle on our patio. We moved it to the pond this morning but it has sunk to the bottom - is that a problem? Does it need to be near the surface - it is about 60cm down!
Thank you so much

No it should be fine, it’ll just do its thing! You just need oxygenating plants (which I’m assuming you have anyway!) so the tadpoles don’t drown. Enjoy watching! Grin

What plants are oxygenating? I have a pond and despite there being frogspawn in the past we have never seen it develop into tadpoles.

Just pop into the water section of a garden centre and ask for some, it’s usually very cheap and you just chuck it in.

This. I’ve just put a mini pond in my garden and it was a tenner for far more plants than I’ll need (got 2 types and there was loads of each!)
If you know someone who owns a pond already you can also just grab a handful out of theirs and chuck it in yours, most stuff should grow from little bits.

I think frog spawn rises up as it develops so it will maybe rise up to the top again.

Thank you so much everyone - I will relax and let it do it's thing! Thanks for the reassurance!

Frogspawn needs to be at the top of the water to get oxygen. If it sinks it will die. Frogs always lay it at the surface for that reason. Toad and newt spawn can survive under the water. (zoology degree).

It may be a bit dry if it was in a puddle. If it's not floating by tomorrow, try repositioning it resting on some plants or similar so it is at the top.

I had similar, pinched some frogspawn from my mum's pond and it sunk when I poured it into mine.

I researched and it needs to be nearer the top so I moved it up and jiggled some stones around to stop it from slipping straight down again. It seems to have worked as the eggs have all hatched now, I just waiting for them to start moving around a bit more

I've got a couple of handfuls of plants in, I hope they're enough? Now it's warmer I hope they'll grow and spread lots
