I committed the ultimate crime: erected a fence

Just had to get this off my chest.......They were told about it before it went up. Its 90cm high. I want to be able to garden in peace and plant out what i want in my own garden without people trampling across it, their dogs, or treating it like their own garden as there was no fence before. Checked and no restrictions and the lovely man who put it in made sure it was not too high for the council to write to me about.

It now feels strangely private (I might take the blinds off the windows as they were there to stop people looking in to my home). I am glad of that. It does look strange as it is new, but I didn't anticipate how anal people can get about change!

I wont go into detail, buts lets just say my self-control limits have been tested with the crap, all no-need-for crap, just to try and wind me up (obviously as they knew about it before it went up they were prepared). I am assuming that they actually think I will take it down if they keep on - which I wont!

Anyone else had to put up with this kind of thing? Wondering if it will go on for years or not?

Looking forward to planting up with fragile plants that wont be disturbed! Although I may have to invest in some headphones to wear while gardening!

We had this done two weeks ago. We had a wall at the front already but we have a drive and nothing that side to allow for privacy but also to stop quite a few dogs coming in. We want to use the space as it is limited were we live.

Our neighbour on the drive side has said to another neighbour that we are trying to block him out. My husband was told this by the neutral neighbour this morning and he joked, 'unfortunately it is not high enough to do that.' We are trying to go about our business without constant interruption as he will keep you talking for hours. He once talked to me for 2 hours!!

It can be 6ft if you have planning permission. We have lots of different styles of houses along our road, from different eras, it is a conservation area but some houses, cottage style homes and a very modern one have 6ft walls and gates.

@Butterfly44

All those talking about a 90cm height. Fencing for front gardens facing a pavement can't be more than 1m high. Enjoy less trampling OP!
OP didn’t say it was a front garden initially, I think most people assumed it was a back garden, as front fences are more unusual.

@flowery Wouldn't expect to see people trampoling, letting their dogs roam free etc in a back garden 🙄 in any case, back or front makes no difference - facing a footpath a fence can only be

I never knew that! (scuttles off to look at front fence... no, I'd say it's 3' exactly)

I assume that this doesn't apply to hedges? (Looks askance at NDN's 5' hedge that inhibits my ability to be incredibly nosy).

Absolutely not the point of the thread, but 5 houses would be 100m not a kilometre. Fifty houses and you’re talking Grin
