poisoning a tree stump

We had a holly oak felled 4.5 months ago (early Nov) and the tree surgeon put poison on the stump as the stump grinder wouldn't fit down the path at the side of the house.

I thought I remembered them saying it'd take around 6 months to work. The stump doesn't seem to look any different to me now than it did then. Shouldn't I expect to at least see some gradual sign of it working already? Does anyone have any experience of this?

(Been having trouble uploading photos today so I hope it works.)

Looks dead to me.

The poison will stop the stump growing not remove/dissolve it.

but isn't it supposed to start crumbling or getting softish gradually? or does that process just take a LOT longer?

It can take years for a tree stump to start to breakdown.
I have one where the tree was cut down 8 years ago and the stump is still pretty much intact.

OK - thanks!

If stumps broke down quickly, decking in a garden or teak benches wouldn’t be much of an option

The poison won't break it down but it looks like it's done its job and killed the tree. We've got tree stumps in our garden that are 20 years old...

If you want it to rot away quicker, drill some big holes down into it.
