How long to allow myself to turf 6m by 5m?

I’ve no idea how long it will take to my turf in our 6 by 5 lawn. Topsoil done and flattened, just the time to allay the turf, most likely in my own. I’ve never turfed before either! Has anyone done it and can remember how long it took?

Terrible typing today but hopefully you get the idea!

Half a day. If you don't need to cut in any borders etc it may go quicker. You literally just roll it out and line up the edges. Ensure you push it into contact with the soil underneath. Then water, water, water!

Thanks @lightningstrikes

I turfed my lawn over the weekend just gone - it’s slightly smaller than yours and it probably took me approx 4/4.5 hours altogether, but I did half on Friday night after work and the rest on Saturday morning. My arms were knackered after doing half on Friday though - turf is much heavier than I thought - so I’d also add some break times in if you’re doing it in one go.

Thank you @Rosit, I’m basically trying to figure out if a day extra at nursery for my child will be enough time or two days so your reply is really helpful!

i'd go for two days at nursery and then if you do it quicker you can have a day of peace and quiet :o

I'd probably allow a weekend, but I am a late starter and early finisher and easily distracted so that's my excuse.

I may be turfing my own garden. So I'm watching this thread with interest. I'm tempted to just seed it and take my chances, turfing looks straightforward, but never done it before.

I only need to returf a small area 3x1m so went to my local garden centre today to buy some turf. However it looked so muddy and sparse I didn't bother - is that normal for turf in spring? Last time I bought some it was lovely and thick and lush!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Topsoil should arrive tomorrow which will be fun as it’s a narrow London pavement and it’s 4 bags! I expect to turf in about 19 days and buy it online. @ginandwineandbaileys I’m turfing so that it is ready quicker, otherwise I’d probably seed it as it looks less hassle! @gleegeek I don’t think the quality in our local stores is that good either but I’ll have to do it online to get it delivered as my car is tiny!

In fact, if anyone has an online supplier recommendations I’d be greatful!

John good luck with the topsoil. I found really decent turf at a small independent garden centre today. Have laid it this afternoon and it's looking lovely and healthy. I don't think the online sellers would want to deliver our few rolls!

Back with a little update just in case it is helpful for anyone! Turfed today and it took me four hours, I probably could have done it a lot quicker but I chose to do a wiggly design in the borders and therefore it required a bit more faffing! Straight edges would probably been 2.5 hours. Fingers crossed it survives the next few weeks and roots!
