Foxes

Any tips on discouraging foxes? One dug in my brand new raised bed the other day - fortunately not dislodging any of the stuff I'd planted! They've also dug holes in the grass and they crap on the patio. Cleaning it up is a bit grim, so I'd love to know if anyone has successfully discouraged them!

well, our garden has a 5 foot wall round 3 sides and a fence with nieghbour. fence is one fence panel high.

From my bedroom I can see over the wall into the field behind. I shoudl say that the ground behind is a little lower, so the wall is higher from that side.

We have chickens and rarely saw foxes in the garden, but often saw them in the field. Then the fence between us and the neighbours blew down. Immediately we regularly had foxes in the garden, they come in through neighbours and leave by climbing on our wood store and jumping off the wall.

We fixed fence. No foxes. fence blew down in another spot, we had regular foxes.

So, while it certainly isn't foolproof, having a solid secure 5 foot fence/ boundary is definitely a deterrant

I once saw a fox scramble over a 5' fence at a friend's house, @steppemum!

A dog is the best fox deterrent. I don't have them in my garden, even though I no longer have my beloved lakeland terrorists. But I suspect I derive some benefit from having Jack Russells in residence on either side. Any fox wanting to get in my garden would have to cross one or other of the neighbouring ones. But I regularly hear foxes close by.

I know they can get over our fence, but it is a real effort, so even with chickens they rarely come in if they have to climb the fence.

We also have a dog. He is a Springer spaniel, and if he sees a fox, he goes nuts, and chases them out. But when the fence is down the dog is veyr little deterrent, unless he is actually out in the garden at the time.

I have a large plot of untended land next to my garden .Family of foxes who encroach - they climb ,scramble and dig under fences .

TBH the path they've carved through one bed is less of a problem than the weeds from next door .Though I hate it when they bring food from elsewhere to enjoy on a small hardstanding at the rear of our patch .

I have motion activated cat repellers that make a high pitched noise... I don’t know if foxes are similarly averse to high pitched noises?

We already have 6 foot fences round two sides of the garden, and a 5 foot fence between us and next door - they can jump and scramble over the 5 foot fence! I'd love for a dog to be the solution, but eventually we'll both have to go back to the office so it wouldn't be fair on the dog. Long-term (like when I retire long term) that's my plan...

I will see if I can get some of the cat repellent things. Particularly if I can put one by the front door - having to clean fox shit off the front step was a low point this week!
