Hi All, can you all recommend good, reasonably priced, on line nurseries to buy plants/bulbs from. Usually go to the garden centre but they are extortionate and just trying to plan ahead!

I have bought from Thompson and Morgan a few times but last year found small local ones to me I'd never heard off through Facebook. Much cheaper than the big ones.

When I first saw the title I thought it was for childcare. You put your small child in front of a laptop screen then go out 😀

J Parkers is good value. Plants are packed well and shipping is fast.

For bulbs I really like J Parker’s & Farmer Gracy.

For plants I’ve always had very healthy plants from Crocus (they’re slightly on the pricey side mind you) and Sarah Raven.

If I want a specific plant that’s quite expensive I usually go to a local nursery so I can see it growing there and ask for advice (we live quite high and exposed so not everything thrives)

I’ve had very little success with Farmer Gracey!

I like “big plant nursery”, but also specialist growers (eg David Austen for roses, etc), in addition to ones PP have mentioned.

Thanks guys, definitely not leaving children on-line (much)! You can’t beat a wander around a local garden centre but they are just getting so expensive, have found a few specialist via Facebook but will have a look at your suggestions.

The good thing about buying your bedding plants online now rather than waiting for garden centre later is that you can saved loads of money by buying plug plants. The drawback is that you have to have space to grow them on before they can be planted out, like a cold frame or greenhouse, and access to pots and compost.
I am bombarded with offers from Dobies and Thompson and Morton currently - lots of very good deals. I have recently made an order from Victorian Nursery, which I'm quite happy about because they will not send it until May when they then won't need to take up space in my cold frame, but I've paid the plug price rather than the container price, so that's a win in my book. They have a very nice selection.

jacquesamandintl.com has an incredible selection for bulbs. I've had lots of success with things from them. Hardy's plants has been really good for plants and I'd also recommend Victorana Nursery.

I've recently bought quite a few perennial plug plants from ebay.

They're really good value and apart from a couple of exceptions I've been impressed with the quality - they're all coming along nicely now in my little plastic greenhouse. Once I foud a seller I was happy with I've gone back and bought a few more things from them...

It is a bit of a gamble but I went for sellers with good feedback and the price was low enough that i didn't mind risking it...

‘The secret gardening club’ seems good, I ordered from them last year, plants are cheap and they have new plants each week on offer.

I've just taken delivery from J Parker, and from Burncoose (an old established nursery) - both sent healthy plants well packed.

David Austin for roses. Which means his daughter, Clare Austin, is probably worth a look.

SeaRabbit · 07/03/2021 05:34

I was just going to recommend Claire Austin - her prices are good for the quality and good varieties.

I also got some good plants from this place: botanyplants.co.uk
They are very much not geared up to online so it was a bit steam driven, but the plants and prices are good.
