Weed identification

I'm trying to learn about weeds as I sort out the borders. I also have quite a few other types of self seeded plants so some of them may not be weeds at all. Can anyone help with this one please? I have quite a few dotted around the garden. Thanks

The small one is a type of willow herb, definitely a weed. The larger one looks familiar as a weed. I’d pull both up.

Thanks - will do. Last thing I want is for them to spread even more.

I'd definitely have the smaller ones out, willowherbs of some sort. Not sure what the larger one is... if unsure then you could wait see if it flowers, which makes ID a lot easier. And then if it's a weed get it out pronto before it sets seed!

I think that's going to be my strategy generally as there are quite a few weeks I can't identify despite having printed off a guide to recognising common weeds. It's quite often difficult to tell when they first come through. I'm okay on dandelions, bittercress and oxalis (and a few other common ones), and will remove the odd blades of grass that seem to be appearing quite a lot.

You’ll eventually get used to the type of weed that grows in your garden. Often they are specific to a type of soil.

And of course, a weed is just a plant in the wrong place - a wildflower might be welcome in one part of a garden but unwelcome in another, same goes for a 'domestic' plant.
