Hi,

An order of bare root geraniums has just arrived (had forgotten - I ordered them before christmas)

Problem is it's snowing/frozen outside... so what do I do with them? Everything I've read says to plant them out as soon as possible after receiving them... just not sure when that's going to be!

Do you have any compost and some pots? If so, I'd plant them in those and put them outside. Assuming they are the hardy perennial geraniums and not the summer bedding variety.

If they are the hardy ones put them in the ground, if they are bedding pot them up and put them somewhere frost free.

I have planted in the ground between snow fall before, doesn’t seem to bother hardy plants as long as they are going from being outside at the nursery to outside in your garden.

Thank you - I will brave the snowy garden tomorrow... they seem quite dry should i put them in water overnight?

Stick them in a pot. I have some been sitting in pots since the summer because I keep not preparing their spot.

they seem quite dry should i put them in water overnight? Yes. Not longer than overnight, but at least half an hour.

I had 3 bare root roses turn up unexpectedly before I’d organised pots or compost. I added some water into the plastic wrap around the root balls and they were fine tatting around the dining room for a week before being planted!
