Tall evergreen plants for raised beds?

Hello MN gardening experts! Looking for some recommendations please. As stated in the title, I need to find some plants that I can buy that are already at least 4/5ft, evergreen and will happily grow in some raised beds to create a instant height/a bit of a screen. I have looked at bamboo but it looks a bit...boring? And I’m not sure it would look quite right in our garden, we have lots of hydrangea bushes, photinias, rose bushes, lavender. Had also thought about more photinia but thought I would see if there was anything else that fits the bill and creates more interest. It doesn’t need to look like a hedge either, just needs to be something that grows tall and creates some interest. Garden is south facing and although we don’t know much about gardening, we do make sure it stays well watered during the hotter months and everything seems to grow well. So, any suggestions would be gladly received, thank you!

Sarcococca is lovely - and fragrant. Laurel?or magnolia stellata?

Oh evergreen, sorry!
Rhododendrons. Lovely if you use the right soil and keep it welded.

@AlwaysLatte thank you, I’ve just had a look at rhododendrons and they’re beautiful, just what I was after!

@AlwaysLatte sorry, just a quick question, what did you mean by keeping them welded?

@GoryGilmore OMG that was some sort of typo! I have no idea! Watered I think - they do like lots of water!

Four to five feet is a very substantial plant, how deep and wide are the raised beds?

GoryGilmore · 07/02/2021 08:46

Ah, watered does make more sense Grin

The beds are 70cm high, 60cm depth, 180cm width. Quite big, I think?

Pittosporum? I have several and think they are great but will be quite expensive for that size.

As a quick temporary solution try Solanum crispum Glasnevin. It's a semi-climber, quick growing, evergreen and covered in purple flowers all summer.

I planted a single plant last April on a North facing fence in a narrow bed. It's now reached the top of the fence and spread across two fence panels - so 2 m high and 4 m wide. I will tie it in and clip any branches heading into the garden soon.

It's there temporarily while I wait for climbing roses and other shrubs to take off. It is easy to remove when I no longer need it.

If the beds back up to a fence, then evergreen clematis are lovely in winter. We have Wisley Cream in bloom at the moment and a young Jingle Bells, yet to flower.
If there’s no fence then they are happy to grow up an obelisk.

Myrtle.

Have a look at yesterday's Garden Rescue (06.02.21). They had raised beds as well.

Some interesting suggestions, I’ll do some research. Thanks everyone!
