Am I too late?

I got into gardening for the first time last year (quickly became obsessed!) and brought a massive sack of daffodil bulbs to plant in the autumn, but due to a family crisis I've not been able to plant them.

I might get a chance this weekend but is it too late? Will they keep in the sack until next autumn or are they best in the ground?

(If it makes any difference we have LOTS of moles and I've heard they like munching on bulbs)

Thank you!

They're best in the ground. They need to be growing to make flower buds for next year. If you're worried about moles, then at least grow them in pots or tubs - if you haven't got enough pots, tubs, discarded containers, try buying cheap plastic trugs and make some drainage holes in them. You can use garden compost or even garden soil, but if they're in a container give them some plant food once they're in full growth.

Once they've died down, you can lift them from the containers, ready to plant them in the ground at the proper time for next year.

They won’t eat the daffodils.

You do need to plant them ASAP.

Thank you @MereDintofPandiculation and @Belinda554 I'll get them planted. The ground is frozen solid today so might need to be next weekend instead. Hopefully not too late!

Today I planted out some hyacinths I never got round to, and a bag of aliums I split last summer : fingers crossed!
