Log Cabin at lowest level of garden

Hi,

We have recently had some quotes to put down a concrete base in a corner of our garden so that we can build a log cabin on top.

The garden is on a slope with the lowest point in the bottom left corner and highest point in the upper right corner. It's not a steep slope, maybe about 1 metre difference in height from corner to corner.

The log cabin works best (accessibility wise) in the bottom left corner, which is typically the lowest point.

I'm worried about water running down to it. However the people that have been around to quote have said that it won't be a problem, but didn't explain why. I'm still not convinced though, and wondered if anyone could explain to me why it isn't a problem?

If it makes a difference, there will be 0.5 metres of gravel around the edge of the concrete base / log cabin.

Thank you in advance.

It depends on how well rain water soaks into your garden during heavy rain events and storms. If you get water flowing over the surface down to that corner, then it will be a problem. If the rain usually soaks into the ground as it falls, then it won’t. This will depend on the type of soil you have, how deep the water table is below the surface, and what is on the ground surface. A flower bed, for example, will soak up excess water more rapidly than lawn, and lawn more rapidly than a paved patio.

You really need to wait for the next big rain event, and then go outside and look.

A trench filled with gravel around the building as you describe will also help.

And, if there is a step up into the cabin, that will also help.

Thank you @VenusClapTrap. They gave actually suggest a step down rather than step up. There's no obvious issues that I can see but I will look after the next lot of rain, and also check with the builder about the step. Thanks again.
