Plants along a fence.

We have recently put a fence at the front of our house. There's pavement, then a 2 metre deep strip of grass, then our fence, then more grass (well, weeds, which we will dig up to plant shrubs) then our drive and house.

We want to put something in front of the fence to mask the gravel boards (and save returfing!) The obvious choice is lavender, but has anyone any other ideas? If gets a big blast of sun in the morning, and is chalky.

Thanks!

salvia hot lips is pretty tough & flowers for a long time.

Does Salvia not die back, though? Ideally, we want something that will provide a nice leafy ruff all year, to soften the edge, hide the gravelboard bits at the bottom, and obviate the need to fix the grass which is a bit of a mess along the hedge at present.

Lavender would be good in sun. How about hebe? Or if it doesn't need to be too tall then Mexican fleabane can be lovely and more informal.

Oh fleabane is a genius idea! That could really work well.

my salvia hot lips is still green & looking good now in mid Dec. it just seems to keep going for ever.

My Mexican fleabane is still fully flowering all along a border.
