Can I grow basil on a windowsill now?

All my summer basil in the yard has now died Sad. Is it possible to get a decent crop over the Winter if you plant inside in a windowsill? Thanks for any advice

Maybe, if it's bright and warm there. And you're less likely to lose the lot to greenfly this time of year.

I think you'll struggle, not enough hours of daylight.

Mine is doing okish.

Not growing much but very green and doing ok.

I am contemplating moving it to a sunnier spot upstairs to see if it helps a bit.

I've tried before and not managed. Currently my basil is still going, but I don't expect it to right through winter. Although it may be a sunny windowsill, it still won't have enough sun and be cold.. I suspect.
Would probably manage with one of those light growing systems things? Never used one of them though.

Buy a pot already growing from the supermarket and use that. If they haven't got any in pots, buy a bunch and put it in a jar of water on the windowsill. I did that the other week and it has grown roots.

I am growing a pot I bought in the supermarket. I repotted it and it seems to be doing well.

Yes, try this. My semi neglected supermarket pot is doing ok.

I kept a sparse plant going through last winter, hardly enough to use for dinner but it didn't die completely

Ok, thanks everyone. It doesn’t sound like much of a flyer but I might try on a small scale to see what happens. I’m not keen on supermarket basil so I probably won’t do that.
