hiya mumsnet,
I'm not sure where to put this thread as couldnt find anywhere for "houseplants"

Had this for a few years and ive no idea what to do with it, i used to climb this pole with big leaves... now it just looks like this...

I dont want it to die, or look scruffy, is there anyway to get it back to its former glory?!

I use this https://amzn.to/2ZTUMeR miracle-gro 1 pump on all my indoor plants and it keeps them looking green and healthy without having to make up the mix. Should spruce up your old plant a treat.

Oh, thank you for replying, I wasn't expecting a reply so quickly, especially! Do you think it will just grow its leaves back like it used to have? Or do I need to do something with it to get it to grow like its meant to? Its almost like it got too tall (I also didn't know what to do with it, once it grew bigger than its moss pole) and then just gave up.

I just have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it! But I will be buying your recommendation off amazon!

When was the last time you re-potted it? Some fresh soil an a trim of the root ball could revitalise it.

Hiccupiscal · 20/09/2020 23:41

actually not long ago, a few months prehaps, the soil I used was 100% not the best condition though, as we didn't have much money (& DP doesnt understand anything about plants etc, so i got what I was given!Sad)
So your recommendation would probably do it the world of good.

It looks like it needs more light, can you move it to a brighter spot?

MereDintofPandiculation · 21/09/2020 11:28

It's one of the best for growing in low light levels, but the location in your picture looks too dark even for Philodendron scandens..

My mum always used to put hers outside on sunny days to give it a boost.

Putting it outside is a good idea! It is indeed in a middle room of a terrace house which gives it very little natural light. My rubber plant however is excelling itself in the same room! I shall take sad looking Philodendron scandens for a little visit outdoors tommorow I think!

Do be careful of strong sun, @Hiccupiscal. After being in a shaded location, it would need to be acclimatised to the sun, and would likely scorch. Try a shady area first.
