Wall supports

I've always been apprehensive of training plants on houses but my new house is ugly from the front so I've planted wisteria and a climbing rose, both of which are growing quickly as hoped.
Can anyone recommend the best way to train them up the wall. I've looked at the metal hooks which I think I would prefer over a trellis especially as I hope it will spread.

No problem with training plants if you need to provide support. It's the self-clingers like ivy and Virginia creeper that can get out of control. There are advantages in hot summers as the climbing plants will make the house cooler - not so great if you're hoping to take advantage of sun to keep the house warmer in winter.

Hooks and wires are easier to adapt to the shape of the plant, and will not need the maintenance of a wooden trellis.

Consider how you will manage pruning. The wisteria will need pruning to encourage flowers, the climbing rose will cope without (especially if a rambler rather than a climber) but will flower better with.
