West facing front yard help

Hello.

I have a small, paved, traditional yard at the front of my terraced house. It’s path to the left, then an area roughly 8ft by 10ft. It’s dull and grey!

We’ve just had a shiny new front door and windows replaced and I’d like to turn it into some sort of container gardening spot, now that I’ve completely filled the back Wink

Out back we’ve got climbing roses, jasmine and honeysuckle, hydrangea in huge pots. Complete mish mash of colour and lots of other little pots with dahlias etc and herbs in. It’s very busy looking and wondering if I’d be better sticking to what I know and can grow well (though appreciate it’s a different aspect) or going for a completely different feel to the front.

My favourites are roses but it does depress me slightly when they are dormant.

So if anyone has any ideas as to what I could stick out there in large planters, that will do well West facing (but is quite exposed and does get very hot and sunny for most of the day)?

Thanks 💐

I’d look for some evergreen, structural, Statement plants that will look god all year round, such as Fatsia Japonica or bay trees. Then I’d ring the changes each season with small berry/ heathers for Autumn and winter, bulbs for spring and annuals for summer. Searching Pinterest for seasonal planters will give you some ideas what these could look like.
